(San Francisco) — The presidents of two world-class universities in California will be awarded Koret Prizes for 2004 on Friday, May 7 at the Four Seasons Hotel, including $1 million grants for each of their institutions.
President John Hennessy of Stanford University and President Robert Dynes of the University of California (UC) are being recognized for their outstanding contributions to education, a signature focus area for the Koret Foundation, which this year celebrates 25 years of service to the communities it supports.
Koret's history with both Stanford and UC dates back to its earliest grants. Koret's K-12 Task Force, comprised of 11 scholars at the Hoover Institution at Stanford, has gained a national reputation for developing sound public education policy. Business, economics and Jewish studies programs at both institutions are supported by Koret, and Koret has made major capital gifts to both schools, most recently granting $10 million to UCSF's Mission Bay Campus, which was dedicated last fall.
At a luncheon in their honor, Hennessy and Dynes will engage in conversation about education, its future, and education policy, facilitated by UC President Emeritus Richard Atkinson, who serves on the Koret Foundation's board of directors.
