Koret’s interest in youth development focuses on helping disadvantaged young people develop the skills they need to do better in school and better in life. Working with YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, and other community-based organizations, Koret supports after-school programs that enrich Bay Area youth in ways that are distinct from school, yet contribute to school success.
In addition, our support for youth docent programs at Bay Area science and wildlife museums helps young people discover their potential to teach and pursue careers in the sciences.
Our summer academic enrichment program brings the resources of high-performing, private schools to disadvantaged young people from lower-income public schools.
And our college access program encourages disadvantaged young people to consider and apply to college.
By helping young people connect with their communities in meaningful ways, our programs challenge participants to be creative and curious; develop skills and competencies; apply the lessons of the classroom to other life experiences; and expand their academic, cultural, social, and civic horizons.
