Koret has become a primary stakeholder in the national conversation on K–12 education. We support the education reform movement by funding the Koret Task Force on K–12 Education, a blue-ribbon panel of education experts convened by the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Our grantmaking program, geared toward transparency, accountability, and choice, follows the direction the task force sets: We are particularly interested in funding that results in high levels of educational achievement in the K–12 arena.
We also know that informal education is an important aspect of future success. Our youth development funding is designed to improve the lives of young people from low-income backgrounds. In this effort, we strive to help make available the supports and opportunities that are more readily accessible to young people in middle- and upper-class communities. Koret’s activities in the youth development field complement its goals for education. At the same time, the youth development program focus is broader than school success, encouraging development of a range of skills and competencies important for success in life.
In higher education, we support policy research that advances democratic and free-market societies. In addition, we proudly fund Jewish studies at Northern California’s leading campuses, as well as capital projects that advance the universities’ missions.
