Koret awards grants to organizations that are exempt from federal tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and are not classified as private foundations under section 509(a) of the Code.
Geographically, grants are made to general community organizations serving one or more of the following counties: San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo, or Santa Clara. In the Jewish community, grants are made primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area and Israel, though national and international organizations may be considered in some instances.
Koret seeks to fund outstanding examples of innovative approaches to community challenges and opportunities in the following areas of interest, particularly those that have significant public policy implications.
